The Hundred Club of Mass an Organization Supporting Fallen Fire & Police Announces New Leadership

BOSTON–October 28, 2020–Change is in the air as The Hundred Club of Mass., Inc., the organization known throughout the Commonwealth for providing support and financial relief to the families of fallen police officers and firefighters, announces that it has nominated a new president and named a new chairman of the board. The 61-year-old organization has seen few leadership changes over the decades until this past month, signaling a new era of increasing exposure and awareness for the critical mission services the Club provides to the families of first responders.

The Board sought a leader focused on innovation, results, and growth both internally and externally, and so appointed Peter H. Smyth as the new President of the Club. Smyth has been a Board member at the Club and served in a leadership capacity for many other charitable and philanthropic boards and committees. “I am truly honored to accept the role as President of the Hundred Club of Mass.,” said Smyth. “Our organization’s commitment is to ensure the ultimate sacrifice these heroes made is never forgotten, and their families are cared for and protected. In my new role I promise to put the mission of caring for those who care for us above all.”

Previously, Smyth served as the Chairman and CEO of Greater Media for over thirty years. He has received countless awards, including; The Lifetime Leadership Award from Radio Ink, The Ward L. Quall Leadership Award, The Tom Rivers Humanitarian Award, and many more. Peter has also been inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Joseph Abely has also been named the new Chairman of the Board. Abely has been involved with the Club as the head of the audit committee, among other activities.“I very much look forward to working with Peter Smyth on continuing to expand the legacy of Norman Knight and the founding members of the Hundred Club,” said Abely.

Abely is currently an Executive Consultant with Club Benchmarking and serves on several charitable Boards, most often providing strategic financial direction. He was also formerly the Chairman and CEO of LoJack Corporation and the President at the Carroll Center for the Blind.

There are over 30,000 first responders in Massachusetts who on a daily basis put their lives in harm’s way. The Hundred Club’s mission has remained since 1959 to care for those who care for us. In the past ten years, the Hundred Club has provided over $3 million dollars to the families of fallen heroes.
