As September arrives, there is something comforting about getting back into a routine.  The slower pace of summer gives way to familiar schedules, busy calendars, and the excitement of a new season ahead. Your support was felt throughout the summer, and nowhere more meaningfully than in the moments when we were able to stand beside our families. August brought a particularly difficult time for the police and fire communities, as you will see below.  With each loss, we are reminded of the profound commitment our brave men and women make every day to protect and serve our communities, and the personal toll their jobs take.  We ask that you continue to keep them, their families, and their fellow officers and firefighters in your thoughts. And please know that your support is there with us in those difficult moments. When we sit across the table from a surviving spouse or spend time with a child whose world has been forever changed, we carry your support with us.  When we offer a helping hand, provide financial assistance, or simply remind a family that they are not alone, you are right there beside us. That is what makes the Hundred Club community so special.  It isn’t simply what we do, it is the people who make it possible. As we head into a new season, thank you for continuing to stand with us, for believing in our mission, and for helping us keep our promise to the families of fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters. A Difficult August for Our Police and Fire Communities

August was an especially difficult month for Massachusetts’ police and fire communities. Seven active-duty police officers and firefighters were lost during the month, the greatest number of losses we have experienced in a single month in years.

The significance of these seven losses extends far beyond the moment we say goodbye.  Families will continue to navigate the days, months, and years ahead, and that is where the Hundred Club, and you, remain committed to standing beside them.  For those who loved them most, this is not simply a moment of loss, it is the beginning of a very different journey.

State Trooper Edward Powers — Massachusetts State Police

During this difficult time, we ask our community to keep these families, their departments, and all of our brave men and women in the police and fire communities in your thoughts.

And we want our members and supporters to know that your support is felt in these moments.  When we sit with a surviving spouse, speak with a child, or meet with a family as they navigate an unimaginable new chapter, we carry your kindness and support with us.  You are right there beside us.

Our promise continues; you are not alone, and you will never be forgotten.

What a wonderful day it was for our Hundred Club families at Elysium Acres in Chester, New Hampshire!  This special Family Funday brought families together for an afternoon of connection, laughter, and simply enjoying time together in a beautiful and peaceful setting.

The day included pony rides, a bounce house, a delicious barbecue, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and a very special opportunity to meet and take photos with mounted State Police horses.

But beyond the activities, the heart of the day was being together.  Throughout the year, the Hundred Club creates opportunities for our families to connect, meet others who understand their journey, and remind one another that they are part of a community who cares.  Elysium Acres, with its beautiful grounds and commitment to supporting retired and rescued horses, including two retired police horse, provided the perfect setting for a day centered on family and community connection.

We are incredibly grateful to our Elysium Acres hosts, Executive Director Patti Lessard, Hundred Club Board of Directors Member, Henry Sullivan, and All the volunteers who helped make this day so special.  We hope it is the first of many opportunities to gather our Hundred Club family in this beautiful place.

The Boston Bruins BFit Challenge is your chance to get moving and make a difference for our families!  Take on a 6-level stair climb throughout TD Garden and the Verizon Tower!  You can run or walk, and all fitness levels are welcome.  Climb with your family, coworkers, friends, or fellow police and fire supporters, raise money for an important cause, and help the Hundred Club continue providing lifelong support to families of fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters.  PRE-REGISTER NOW THROUGH SEPTEMBER 22 and be entered to win an autographed Bruins jersey signed by defenseman Elias Lindholm!                                                                                                                                                                                              Climb for the Hundred Club. What a fantastic day on the course!  The inaugural JGPR Golf Tournament, which raised nearly $15,000 for the Hundred Club of Massachusetts, brought together golfers, supporters, friends, and an incredible lineup of celebrity golfers for a day filled with fun, camaraderie, and a shared commitment to our mission.We are incredibly grateful to JGPR for hosting this special event and to every golfer, sponsor, celebrity guest, donor, and volunteer who helped make the tournament such a success. Your generosity will help the Hundred Club continue providing immediate financial assistance and lifelong support to the families of fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters.From the first tee to the final putt, it was a wonderful celebration of community and support.   Thank you to everyone who helped make the first JGPR Golf Tournament one to remember!

It was a busy and meaningful month for the Hundred Club at Encore Boston Harbor! From Feed the Funnel to the Nonprofit Leadership Retreat, we were grateful for the opportunities to connect with our community, give back, and learn alongside fellow nonprofit leaders.  Each gathering was a wonderful reminder of the power of partnership and the many people who believe in the Hundred Club’s mission.  Also great to meet Dan Pallotta, creator of Uncharitable, a powerful movie about how people think about charities, and The Bold Training, which helps nonprofit boards and staff awaken, articulate and pursue their most magnificent dreams.  Once again, thank you to Encore Boston Harbor for welcoming the Hundred Club and for hosting this year’s annual beneficiary Holiday party in December – we can’t wait!

The Hundred Club of Massachusetts is exploring a lighthearted but meaningful membership initiative with police departments across the Commonwealth.  We’ll be reaching out to Chiefs to invite their departments to participate by allowing officers to grow their hair or facial hair for a designated period, at the Chief’s discretion, in support of the Hundred Club and the families we serve.For departments where facial hair is not typically permitted, we’re asking Chiefs to consider a temporary exception as part of the campaign, with participating officers becoming Hundred Club members.  It’s a simple way to have a little fun, build camaraderie, and make a meaningful difference.  Most importantly, every new member strengthens our ability to support the families of fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters across the Commonwealth.  If you have any questions, reach out to Sandra Montesino at smontesino@100clubmass.org.

Gift by Will (Bequest)  You can include the Hundred Club of Massachusetts in your will or trust by naming us as a beneficiary.  Whether you choose a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other distributions, your legacy can have a lasting impact. Retirement Assets (IRA or Employer Plans) Designating the Hundred Club of Massachusetts as a beneficiary of your retirement accounts, such as an IRA, 401(k), or 403(b), is a simple and impactful way to give.  In some cases, this approach may also offer tax advantages. Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs) Did you know that you can pay for your membership dues with your DAF?  We also gratefully accept gifts made through donor-advised funds.  To make a contribution, simply recommend a grant to the Hundred Club of Massachusetts through your fund sponsor.  If you would like your gift to support a specific program or to cover your membership dues, you may include that designation in your recommendation. Please note: final approval of grants is determined by your DAF sponsor.
