Hundred Club of Massachusetts Launches $15,000 Matching Campaign in Wake of Trooper Kevin Trainor’s Death

Stevens Family Foundation Generously Commits $15,000 Toward Matching Gift Campaign to Support Hundred Club’s Mission

BRAINTREE — Moved by the life and sacrifice of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, the Stevens Family Foundation is teaming up with the Hundred Club of Massachusetts for the “Always Ready” matching gift campaign. This campaign will strengthen the Hundred Club’s ability to stand beside families if another Massachusetts police officer or firefighter makes the ultimate sacrifice in service to others.

Following the tragic loss of Massachusetts State Trooper Kevin Trainor last week, the Stevens Family Foundation, led by Brian and Kathryn Stevens of Marlborough, MA, has committed a $15,000 matching gift to support the Hundred Club’s mission of providing immediate and ongoing assistance to the families of fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters lost while serving their communities.

Through May 31, every new membership, renewed membership, increased membership or additional donation made to the Hundred Club of Massachusetts will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Stevens Family Foundation, up to $15,000.

The “Always Ready” matching-donation campaign reflects the nonprofit organization’s longstanding commitment to remain prepared for tragedy when it strikes and to provide critical support to surviving families of Massachusetts law enforcement officers and firefighters.

Trooper Trainor, 30, died on May 6 while responding to a wrong-way driver call. Family, friends and fellow troopers remember Trainor as a compassionate public servant who dedicated his life to protecting others. His actions that day likely saved lives.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of Trooper Kevin Trainor,” said Executive Director Tracie Hines. “While most of us were asleep, he was awake, serving and protecting others. The Hundred Club exists to provide support to the loved ones of first responders in moments of unspeakable tragedy like this one. Powered by everyday community members like you and me, we stand beside families after unimaginable loss and remind them that they will never face the road ahead alone.”

Founded in 1959, the Hundred Club of Massachusetts provides financial assistance and loving support to the families of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters across all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. The organization’s work is quiet and deeply focused on families, delivering support when they are least able to advocate for themselves and remaining a constant long-term presence through milestones, grief, anniversaries and the everyday realities that continue for many years after the public attention fades.

For the Hundred Club of Massachusetts, matching donation campaigns like the “Always Ready” campaign supported by the Stevens Family Foundation help ensure that the nonprofit organization can always respond quickly and effectively when tragedy strikes first responder families. The Hundred Club noted that maximizing the Stevens Family Foundation’s matching donations could help support several families in the wake of tragedy.

Individuals, current/retired police officers and firefighters, and businesses can become members of the Hundred Club and directly support the organization’s mission. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations looking to make an even greater impact.

“All of our memberships and individual donations help us fulfill a promise that has existed for more than 65 years,” Executive Director Hines said. “When a firefighter or police officer gives their life in service to others, we will be there for their loved ones — not just in the immediate aftermath of tragedy, but for the years and decades to come.”
