Honoring Our Heroes: International Firefighters’ Day

Every year on May 4th, communities around the world pause to recognize the courage and sacrifice of firefighters on International Firefighters’ Day. It’s a time to honor the men and women who protect our homes, neighborhoods, and families—and to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

In Massachusetts, The Hundred Club stands with the families of those fallen heroes. Since 1959, this nonprofit organization has provided immediate and long-term support to the families of firefighters and police officers who have died in the line of duty or as a result of duty-related causes such as cancer, cardiac events, or suicide.

In 2024 alone, The Hundred Club of Massachusetts provided more than $600,000 in immediate financial support. But their commitment doesn’t end there. The Club also offers educational assistance, hosts family gatherings, and remains a steady presence in the lives of surviving spouses and children—honoring each hero not just once, but always.

On International Firefighters’ Day, we remember the brave, and we thank those who support the families they leave behind.
