| Dear Sandra,July was filled with inspiring moments from golf tournaments and fundraising events to community partnerships and new memberships. We’ve seen people across the Commonwealth come together to support the families of our fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters. Every event, every sponsorship, and every new member strengthens our ability to fulfill our promise to the families we serve.July also brought the heartbreaking loss of two members of our fire service community. While we celebrate the successes that allow us to grow our impact, we never lose sight of the families whose lives are forever changed by these tragedies.As summer begins to wind down and we savor these final weeks with family and friends, I encourage all of us to remember the men and women who continue to answer the call every day. A simple gesture of appreciation, a kind word, or a moment of grace can mean more than we realize. Our police officers and firefighters dedicate their lives to protecting our communities, and they deserve our unwavering respect and support.Thank you for standing with the Hundred Club of Massachusetts. This July, the Hundred Club of Massachusetts welcomed two more families into our care as we mourned the loss of two dedicated members of the Massachusetts fire service.
We remember Deputy Chief Patrick James “PJ” Roy of the Fitchburg Fire Department, who passed away on July 8, 2026, at the age of 45. Deputy Chief Roy devoted 20 years to serving the City of Fitchburg, rising through the ranks to become Deputy Chief. He also proudly served the Ashby Fire Department. Known for his exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and deep commitment to his community, firefighting was more than a profession to PJ, it was his calling.
We also honor Firefighter John Benoit of the Everett Fire Department, who passed away on July 11, 2026, following a battle with occupational cancer. Firefighter Benoit served the Everett community for more than 30 years, dedicating his career to protecting others with courage and compassion.
As we remember Deputy Chief Roy and Firefighter Benoit, we also recognize the families they leave behind. Their loss is a solemn reminder of why the Hundred Club’s mission exists. You were there for the families as well, through the generosity of our members, donors, and community partners. Because of your support we were able to provide immediate financial assistance and will welcome them to our circle of support.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Roy and Benoit families, as well as to the members of the Fitchburg, Ashby, and Everett Fire Departments. Their service, sacrifice, and legacy will never be forgotten.
Through their beard and mustache fundraising campaign, Everett officers rallied behind our mission with 21 new Hundred Club memberships! Every new member strengthens our ability to support families who have lost a loved one.
To every officer who participated, became a member, or encouraged others to join, thank you. Your commitment to taking care of your own extends far beyond the badge, and we are deeply grateful for your generosity and leadership.

Think your department can top Everett’s 21 new memberships or ever achieve 100% departmental membership?
If your department doesn’t allow facial hair, but the Chief will make an exception, choose to become a First Responder member of the Hundred Club of Massachusetts in exchange for growing a beard or mustache. Not only will you build camaraderie within your department, but you’ll also help ensure that when tragedy strikes, the families of our fallen active-duty police officers and firefighters know they are never alone. If your department does allow facial hair, hold a departmental competition to see who can grow the longest beard or the best mustache. Join in a little healthy competition and at the same time stand with fire and police families who have lost a loved one.

| Because of your support, the Desfosses girls – who lost their father Norton Detective Sergeant Stephen Desfosses in 2021 were able to take dance and acting classes, giving them the chance to explore their talents, make lifelong friendships and create opportunities that build confidence, creativity, and lasting memories. |
Recently, we had the privilege of providing support for—and spending time with—Kathryn Quigley, wife of Dedham Police Officer James “Jay” Quigley, and their remarkable children, James (9 years old) and Maeve (11 years old). Officer Quigley passed away in July of this year at the age of 42 after a courageous battle with cancer.
In the midst of unimaginable loss, the Quigley family has shown extraordinary resilience, grace, and courage. Thanks to your generosity, the Hundred Club was able to stand beside them during this difficult time, offering immediate financial support, compassion, and the reassurance that their loss is shared by an entire community.
While no amount of assistance can erase the pain of losing a husband and father, your support helps ease the financial burdens that often follow tragedy and reminds families that they are not alone. It is because of members like you that we can respond quickly when a firefighter or police officer’s family needs us most. Thank you.

This Charity Golf Tournament is presented by the FBI Boston CAAA to benefit the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI. Our latest Police & Fire Friday brought us to the Malden Police and Fire Departments, where we had the opportunity to express our gratitude to the dedicated men and women who serve their community every day.
