Lt. Joseph Costantino and the crew of Engine 5 responded to a building fire at Kramer’s Hayloft on Union Street.
He became trapped in the building and was rushed to Mass General Hospital were he succumbed to his injuries a month later. Lt. Costantino was a Navy veteran of World War II and a paratrooper in Korea. He was 41 years old and left a wife and four children. He had two sons who joined the Fire Department.
